One third of United Airlines planes offer Wi-Fi

One of three United Airlines planes is equipped with Wi-Fi. Among them, 151 planes and with this more than half of the planes being equipped are A319s and A320s flying in the U.s., to Canada, Mexico and Central America. The American airline headquartered in Chicago has already announced last year its ambition to offer satellite-based internet connection on overseas routes – an ambition that still has to be worked on by United Airlines.

ITB Berlin 2014 starts today: tourism companies from 189 countries

Today, ITB Berlin opens its doors to last until 9th of March. It proudly expects the visits and representations of more than 10,000 tourism companies from all over the world. In 26 halls there will be presentations on travel products and services, workshops, seminars and a lot of networking for all event planners and people interested. This year, the ITB Berlin focuses on partner country Mexico that hosts the opening ceremony with many extras and surprises, and exhibits on a wide range in Hall 1.1. ITB Berlin is the leading exhibition show for the international travel trade market.

Norwegische Høse-Brücke wird mit Design Award geehrt

Am 30. Januar 2014 vergibt das amerikanische Reisemagazin Travel + Leisure den Award für die “Brücke des Jahres” an die Høse-Brücke im norwegischen Suldal, eine Kommune in der südlichen Region Ryfylke. Die norwegische Brücke ist ein Stahlbau, der auf kreative Weise verschiedene auditive und visuelle Elemente verbindet. Die Konstruktion mit teilweise undurchsichtigen Stahlplatten und durchsichtigen Stahlnetzen mit schräg liegenden Elementen soll dem Spaziergänger das Gefühl vermitteln, gleichzeitig mit der Natur verbunden zu sein als auch auf einem menschenkonstruierten Bau zu stehen. Die Brücke gibt einen Ausblick auf den 21 Meter tiefer liegenden Fluß. Der robuste Bau aus Stahlwerken wurde auf ebenso robustem Felsboden platziert.

Anlass für den Brückenbau war 2008 eine Anfrage der Bewohner der nahen Stadt Sand, die eine Verbindung zum lokalen Waldgebiet suchten, um dieses als Erholungsgebiet nutzen zu können. Das Rintala Eggertsson Architektenbüro arbeitete gemeinsam mit dem tschechischen Designer Ivan Kroupa an der Ideenerstellung und Realisierung der Verbindungsbrücke. Die Bauarbeiten wurden 2013 abgeschlossen. Die Brücke ist eine beliebte Touristenattraktion entlang der nationalen Touristenroute in Ryfylke und damit gleichzeitig ein Blickfang für Wanderer und Freizeitsportler.

Das Magazin Travel + Leisure vergibt jährlich Design Awards für beeindruckende Bauwerke weltweit. Ebenso ausgezeichnet werden diesjährig unter anderem das Elena Garro Kulturzentrum in Mexico City sowie der Pedras Salgadas Erholungs- und Freizeitpark in Portugal. Den Preis für die beeindruckendste Brücke 2014 wird von der Gemeindeverwaltung von Suldal entgegengenommen.

Only a few kilometres southwards of the village of Todos Santos, on Mexico’s peninsula and state Baja California Sur, you will find enchanting Rancho Pescadero. Mexico meeting destinations: San Miguel de Allende

Mexico is one of the world´s favourite MICE destinations. Events and meetings in Mexico promise diversity as well as unique and authentic experiences. There are 71 major convention and exhibition centres across the nation and more than half a million hotel rooms in over 3 000 quality hotels. Destinations across the country can cater for every meeting planners needs and range from cosmopolitan cities, mountainous landscapes, colonial towns and seaside villages. In this blog we present you Mexico´s top MICE destinations themed “Mexico meeting destinations”. Today let’s picture the favourite destination of December, chosen by Mexico Tourism Board: San Miguel de Allende.

The city of San Miguel de Allende counts about 70.000 inhabitants and is located in the eastern part of the state Guanajuato, central Mexico. Founded in 1542 and best known as “The heart of Mexico” it shows up with magnificent, tourists attracting baroque and neoclassical colonial structures. It is significant for its religious and civil architecture of different trends and styles. The cosmopolitan city is wealthy in culture and a cardinal point for international tourism and meetings. Since the year 2002 the city belongs to the magical places, pueblos mágicos, which are extraordinary and charismatic places of interests in Mexico. In 2008 the city was added to the list of UNESCO world heritages.

For your event you can choose between first class business hotels. Directly in the downtown area you find the five starred Done Urraca Hotel & Spa with 32 guest rooms, a bar, a restaurant and an own garden that can get re-decorated for events and business meetings. You can also rent the in-house wine cellar and have your meeting in a special event area. One kilometre southwards you reach the Rosewood San Miguel de Allende with a rooftop tapas bar as well as luxury and spa facilities. Through the vivid streets of San Miguel, there are all kinds of festivals during the hole year, pilgrimages, ringing church bells, all night vigils, fireworks and so on.

From the downtown area you need a car drive of one hour to arrive at Querétaro International Airport, next to Santiago de Querétaro in the south of San Miguel de Allende.

Biz friendly resorts in Mexican Huatulco

Resorts and Spas stand for high standards in luxury and comfort. Usually the hotel district is best used by leisure tourists. Nevertheless, there are some excellent resorts with various business facilities. A paradigm for this is Huatulco: The municipio is located in the southern area of the Mexican state Oaxaca. On Peninsula Yucatán, also called the land of Maya, the Mexican states of Yucatán, Campeche and Quintana Roo are enclosed by many rain forests. During the 4th and 10th century, Yucatán has been the centre of Mayan culture. Until today there are several Mayan tribes and descending groups speaking Mayan language. The Mexican state also houses numerous archaeological sites, the most famous are: Chichén Itzá, Tulum and Uxmal. Here you can find the fascinating cenotes (natural sinkholes) that evolved from the collaps of limestock bedrocks.

About 1,6 million people live in Mexican Yucatán, half of them in the capital city of Mérida. The “white city” impresses with its beautiful surroundings of beaches, well renovated haciendas and the second largest historic center with white centuries-old colonial buildings. Merida is looking to become the top destination for meetings and incentives in the Caribbean, always engaged to attract more business tourists. It features a wealth of options for congress, convention and incentive travel organizers. The international Convention Center Yucatan Siglo XXI is located in the Northern area of the capital city. The venue offers a total event area of 84.000 square metres, divided into the convention center, Salon Uxmal, with four rooms measuring 3.500 square metres and an exhibition area, Salon Chichén Itzá, on 7.600 square metres. Yucatán Siglo XXI comes up with ideal facilities for conventions, congresses, symposiums, seminars as well as commercial or industrial expositions. International events such as T20 Summit in 2012, International Physics Olympiad in 2009 and the 9th World Wilderness Congress in 2009 has been hosted here.

In the downtown area, 12 minutes of car driving southwards, the Fiesta Americana Hotel houses meeting facilities from 25 to 1000 attendees. It offers 13 meeting and 350 guest rooms. A few metres away you find five star Hyatt Regency Mérida featuring 289 guest and nine meeting rooms for up to 500 people. The near Presidente InterContinental Mérida has spread its meeting facilities on eight rooms with altogether 930 square metres and shows up with 127 sleeping rooms. The beautiful surroundings invite to more exciting pre and post event activities on archaeological sites, colonial cities and haciendas, discovering ecotourism products and beach and sun destinations.

The next international airport Manuel Crescencio Rejón is around 20 minutes of car driving away in North Mérida.

International World Footwear Congress 2014 in Leon

The city of Leon will next year host the fifth World Footwear Congress in cooperation with the European Confederation of the Footwear Industry (CEC). The big event focuses on the newest topics of international interest for the shoe. About 600 participants from all over the world will join the event, presenting footwear associations, suppliers, manufactures, journalists and many more. The congress will be held at the end of November 2014. An upcoming global advertising campaign will start and reveal news on the congress, spreading information in international fairs and footwear trade magazines.

The city of Leon is located in the state of Guanajuato in central Mexico and houses substantial capacities for large international events. The Poliforum Leon, among the top ten Convention Centers of Mexico, has room for up to 12.000 people on 12.000 square metres and is specialised for events of all types. A number of national and international events get held here including the World Youth Conference of 2010 and the International Tomato Congress. Being located in the east central part of the city the Convention Center is close to the five starred Holiday Inn Convention Center with 117 guest rooms and three meeting rooms for 250 attendees. The Poliforum Leon can easily be reached by a 20 minutes car drive from the next international airport Guanajuato, southeast of the city.

The city is highly committed and engaged to be the next location of the congress. Leon is an ideal promoter of the World Footwear Congress as it has become the “Shoe Capital of the World” producing large amounts of leather goods and shoes for the national and global market. Highly alive shopping centers show a close addiction to all kinds of fashion, including shoes. Moreover, together with Jalisco and Estado de Mexico, the state of Guanajuato is one of the leading footwear manufacturing state in the country.

Leon is also an important producer for agricultural and livestock goods for Mexico. Destinations across the country can cater for every meeting planners needs and range from cosmopolitan cities, mountainous landscapes, colonial towns and seaside villages. In this blog we present you Mexico´s top MICE destinations themed “Mexico meeting destinations”. Today lets capture Mexico Tourism Board’s best destination for meetings of November: San Luis Potosí.

Originally founded in 1592, the city state looks back at four centuries of influence, not only outweighing due to mining capacities but also to the cardinal point for stock-breeding and farming. With a population of roughly one million the city is among the ten largest metropolitan areas in Mexico. It houses plenty meeting facilities and tremendous sightseeing spots like the Laberinto Museum of Science and Arts or the impressive colonial cathedral San Luis Potosí. Being located in north central Mexico, the semi desert state is the geographical heart of the triangle of Mexico’s largest cities – Guadalajara, Monterrey and Mexico City. It shows up with an ideal connectivity via car and flight due to a very varied and modern infrastructure. Next international airport Ponciano Arriaga is 16 kilometre northwards of the city.

For your meeting:

The world-class Convention Center of San Luis Potosí houses all kinds of events like meetings, conferences and exhibitions for up to 10.000 people. It offers a total meeting capacity of 45.000 square metres, subdivided into a conference area and an exhibition area with two conference and 13 meeting rooms plus six business offices, service corridors and lobbies. The biggest conference room consists of 1.100 square metres, the biggest exhibition hall shows up with 3 000 square metres. The Center is located in the west central part of the city, directly at the park Tangamanga I, and about 29 kilometre away from the airport. You can also place your event in the University Cultural Center Bicentenraio (1.000 square metres event area), the Convention Center Potosino (1.400 square metres of event area) or El Domo with a capacity for more than 10.000 attendees.

For meetings directly in the hotel, the Real Inn with 133 guest rooms offers ten meeting rooms on 600 square metres. It is located in the southwest part of the city, about 22 minutes of driving from the next international airport. The hotel Courtyard by Marriott lies about 19 kilometres from the airport. It features three meeting rooms on 185 square metres as well as 155 guest rooms.

Cintermex, one of the biggest international convention centers in Mexico

Cintermex International Convention Center is one of the biggest and most important venues in Mexico. It is located in the south of the city of Monterrey, an important industrial center being also the third largest city in the country and the birthplace of ecotourism.

The Convention Center provides a very high standard for technique in altogether 27 meeting rooms, two foyers and six exhibition halls. The halls show up with a meeting capacity from 2.600 to 3.500 square metres, each of them hosting at least 2.700 attendees. The biggest area, hall A, houses a maximum of 3.550 guests. Being a symbol of Monterrey, the building shows up with an impressive architecture. It is a major impact on the tourism and meeting industry. Recently, Cintermex has announced to finally start its expansion project, including constructions in the parking tower, the corridors and the meeting area. The costs are estimated at approximately 41 million Euro. Cintermex hosts more than 600 events and 4 million visitors per year. One of the next big events will be the Green World Expo, starting on 23rd of November and featuring waste management issues.

Since its building in 1991, the number of hotel rooms in the city have increased from 2.000 up to 12.000. Three of the best accommodation choices, in the surroundings of the Convention Center, are Holliday Inn Parque Fundidora, Antaris Cintermex and Fiesta Americana Centro Monterrey. The four star hotel Holliday Inn lies nine walking minutes northwest from the Center. On eight floors you find 206 guest rooms, two restaurants and a private parking area. The five-storied Antaris Cintermex with 146 guest rooms is two walking minutes from the complex away. The five star Fiesta Americana is 3.3 kilometre or nine driving minutes away from Centromex. It has nine floors and 207 guest rooms.

The Convention Center is located within the complex Fundidora Park, a place combining history, cultural venues, entertainment and nature, being surrounded by gardens, plazas, walkways, fountains and the Santa Lucia. It is perfectly connected to the city’s infrastructure. The next international airport General Mariano Escobedo lies 25 minutes of car driving eastwards away.
