Florence Convention Bureau recently signed a memorandum of understanding with Fondazione Romualdo del Bianco to promote the ethical tourism and the dialogue between cultures. The two Presidents, Paolo Del Bianco (Fondazione Del Bianco) and Giacomo Billi (FCB), signed the memorandum which strengthens the strong relations between the two Companies to promote the Life beyond tourism® philosophy.
Life beyond tourism® expresses its values by an international platform for exchange of expertise and good practices, in the framework of a tourism based on values and not only on services and consumerism (www.lifebeyondtourism.org). The portal is non-profit: the profits of memberships are reinvested into for cultural and development initiatives in the territory itself. The supporters of Life Beyond Tourism promote a tourism of high cultural quality with a special focus on intercultural dialogue.
According to the Life beyond tourism® Manifesto “the tourist is a potential harbinger of knowledge and of intercultural dialogue” and therefore “the tourist destination is a workshop of knowledge, providing all visitors with an opportunity for cultural growth”. FCB welcomed this orientation in order to make Florence the first world heritage site, listed by UNESCO, that promotes this philosophy.
Giacomo Billi (FCB) stated “Florence Convention Bureau has recently begun to deal also with leisure tourism so this Memorandum and the Life beyond tourism® idealism are really important for the success of our future projects”.
Florence Convention Bureau
This year will see the convention bureau celebrate its 20th anniversary and in the last five years, it has gone from strength to strength, registering a remarkable increase in the number of associate partners and winning pivotal events and international congresses. Thanks to its institutional relationships and the cooperation with the Firenze Fiera Congress and Exhibition Center, the convention bureau has been able to substantially increase its offer for delegates and congress organisers. Firenze Fiera manages the 3 Florentine congress and fair venues: Palazzo dei Congressi, Palazzo degli Affari and Fortezza da Basso located in the heart of the city’s historical centre. The three venues can be seen as a “congress citadel” accommodating MICE events from 10 up to 10,000 participants.
