Case study: a perfect winter incentive program

“We hosted a motorcycle manufacturer company last January. The guests spent 5 days at Grand Hotel Villa Itria for an incentive program – and Etna was the protagonist. The group consisted of 75 delegates, all accommodated in double single use rooms.

Of course, we thought about Sicilian cuisines. A cooking contest, exclusively with Sicilian dishes, put in competition the 3 groups, facing each other in the preparation of our typical “Parmigiana”, “Caponata” and “Cannoli”. The contest began with the selection of the raw materials: the delegates were accompanied by our chefs to the typical baroque market of Catania, “a Piscaria” to be brought into contact with the excellent Sicilian products. The restaurant staff and chefs, after explaining the recipes and procedures, evaluated each team in presentation, taste and organization.

The days were held with just a few hours dedicated to training activities in our meeting rooms and the rest of the day dedicated to the discovery of the territory.

25 brand new enduro were shipped by the company at our hotel. The 75 delegates were divided into 3 groups and each morning a group discovered Etna with the new-shiny bike and a road book. The motorcycle hike was the complete tour of Etna, along the circumference of the great volcano (about 130 km). The ride was made up of a series of steps at the points of greatest natural and historical interest. All this has been possible thanks to the advice of local bikers who have offered their support. On their return, the delegates were welcomed at our spa for a bit of relaxation.

In our land, in addition to the food we put attention to Etna’s wine. Our hotel is located inside the route of wines, called “Strada del vino dell’Etna”. The territory is surrounded by vineyards and cellars are located almost everywhere. The delegates visited a cellar and tasted the wines of Etna, accompanied with cheese, chestnut honeys and hand-made jams. A total must was the trip to Taormina, just 40 minutes away from our hotel as well as the Baroque architecture of Catania (UNESCO Site).”

Luca Manaca’s personal tip for a unique program element:

“Everything here is close at hand, in a few minutes you can reach the highest peak of the volcano, starting from the beach. In winter, on a sunny day, you can ski the snow-covered slopes of Etna in the morning and take a dip in the sea at a beach of Taormina in the afternoon. This is only possible here.

The Etna landscape can be likened to a small country. The landscape, characterized by different elevations, gives us a land constantly changing: colours and fragrances and above activities. We go from the mountains to the sea, from wood to beaches, rivers and lakes, from the cities to the cellars, from skiing to hiking, sailing … no matter the season of the year.

Etna gives us activities linked in particular to nature, accompanied by wine and food tasting and visits of UNESCO sites: Greeks, Arabs, Normans, have left a strong testimony and every day in Sicily you can live these influences that are found in food, in the architecture, folk festivals, and everday life.”
