I am just back from 10 vibrant days in India – as always with many highlights, meetings and learnings, – and one new passion in my heart: our new EPEX@WOW exhibition and conference, in collaboration with the WOW Awards Asia, an IP (intellectual property) of our most valued Indian partners in tmf, Karishma and Vishal Nagdev.
Now – names and structures might sound a bit confusing for some of you, but clocks do run differently in the Indian market and I have done my bit of learning over the 10 good years that we at tmf have been actively involved in the Indian outbound MICE and Event industry. While I was always 100% convinced that India is going to be one of the most important strategic markets for outbound MICE around the globe (which now it is!), it took a bit longer than perceived… But with the hugely expanding Indian weddings segment coming in, things have changed for the better in the past 3-4 years.
Now to the WOW Awards and Convention Asia, and the story behind our event! WOW is the biggest event for the Indian and Asian event industry – rewarding excellence of performance in 70 categories and with over 1000 entries in 2016, which was the 9th annual event of its kind.
As the “who’s who” of the Indian event market come together each year at the awards, it made sense to add a conference with educational elements (in 2015) and this year finally open up an exhibition for the international destinations and suppliers we work with at tmf India and Europe.
And here we are! The mixture of awards ceremonies, technical exhibition with lots of innovation, panel discussions with high end industry professionals from India and internationally, workshops, the EPEX@WOW international sector, networking lunches, gala dinner: 2,5 days of buzz, laughter, emotions, discussions, collaboration, friendship and amazement to the degree of awe – I have never felt as close to my industry as during this event. In India things hardly ever are as they seem at first sight, therefore surprises are ensured –if you go with the flow, your mind opens up a lot and it is a great pleasure to appreciate what comes along your way.
Humble people who turn out to be super stars, examples of the best and emotionally strongest show productions that I have seen to date for weddings and social events, a growing need for better incentive programs, technical support, psychology and ROI as corporations compete with each other for talent and dealers. All of this and much more makes dealing with the Indian outbound event market the most exciting and strategically promising, confirmed by all the exhibitors at our show.
Dubai Business Events, being the main sponsor partner for international MICE destinations and Tuscany for Weddings as sponsor on the side of intl. wedding destinations didn’t only take home many new contacts but a high recognition and appreciation in the market, and were strongly involved in panels and award give-aways.
Barcelona CVB and Vienna CVB, each ran a workshop, which I was happy to facilitate and get fantastic discussions and opinions from both audiences as well as the different panelists, consisting of major event planners from leading agencies and corporations.
tmf dialogue has arranged 50 hosted buyers from corporations and agencies outside of Delhi, in addition to the planners that attended from Delhi itself, who were strongly involved in one-to-one meetings with the international partners and on panels.
