Carol Kahmann, Director of STR Destination Handling GmbH & Co. KG, introduces Slovenia as a new, yet surprisingly diverse MICE destination.
Having worked in hospitality industry, Carol Kahmann joined STR early in 2003 as director. Being responsible for the MICE segment, Carol has been for four years working closely together with INTOURS DMC. In the following interview Carol introduces you Slovenia through German eyes.
1. What is intriguing about Slovenia?
Most intriguing is the diversity which one is able to experience during a short stay: in the morning one can be in the mountain region enjoying the flair of the Alps and in the evening enjoy the freshly caught fish by the Adriatic Sea! I also must highlight the stunning nature which Slovenians are eager to preserve and build into a program – with as much or little adrenaline as one would like. No wonder Ljubljana has been named European Green Capital 2016!
2. What are Slovenia‘s strengths as a MICE destination?
Firstly I would like to mention the very good accessibility of Slovenia with daily flights from the main hubs in Germany, Switzerland and Austria, all with perfect flight times. Considering this and taking into account the short driving distances, participants can enjoy a very diverse incentive program. An additional strength is the selection of historical venues in the capital of Ljubljana which can be reserved exclusively for groups and are in walking distance from the city center hotels. This gives great value to any event.
3. What destinations are popular among German speaking groups?
In our experience it is very popular to combine the city of Ljubljana with the Adriatic Coast. During their stay in Slovenia, the participants can drive through the wine region and visit the world famous Postojna underground cave.
4. What are your favorite activities in Slovenia?
Since the entire central part of Ljubljana is a pedestrian zone, a bike tour is one of my favorite activities. Cycling though the green capital enables one to discover the capital and its hidden gems as well as to get to interact with the friendly locals. The boat tour along the Slovenian Coast, which finishes in the charming city of Piran with a dinner on the exclusively booked Tartini square, is one of my favorite options for dinning. For more outdoor activities I personally like kayaking on Lake Bled in summer and biathlon in the winter time. As one can see it is really difficult to choose from such a great choice of activities in Slovenia.
