The meetings business is personal! We like to show you the people behind the SkyTeam Global Meetings Service, so you see how it can look like to work for a Global Airline Alliance.
SkyTeam Airline Alliance has its headquarter based at Schiphol Airport, Amsterdam. It’s a unique working environment, as there are currently more than 15 nationalities in the office working together in improving and developing SkyTeam’s products and services.
Today, we talk to our colleague Concetta Vecchio, Manager – Commercial Operations.
1. How many colleagues are looking after the Global Meetings Service product and who does what?
We are a small team of total 3 people.
Mr Edward Hollo and I are looking after Commercial Development and Operation of the Alliance B2T and B2C products, including Global Meeting.
Mrs Sannaa El Amraoui is coordinating the dedicated after sales Global Meetings support desk.
We take care of the product, but we also promote it via our airline members’ Sales force, dealing with the MICE industry.
Global Meeting is in fact a product addressed to meeting industry organizers and travel agencies who are planning corporate meeting, events and exhibitions. They can easily add the air travel to the event package, offering the possibility to their attendees to directly book and buy online their ticket with discounts up to 15%.
This product can be also offered by convention bureaus when bidding for an event.
2. You are Italian and have moved to Amsterdam for the job. What is your greatest discovery in the new environment? What do you like best about the city?
Having a past working experience linked to The Netherlands, I have visited Amsterdam from time to time for business, but in this new working and living experience I discovered that Amsterdam attracts expat workers from all over the world for two reasons:
First of all it is the home base of quite a number of multinational companies hiring English speaking employees.
Secondly Amsterdam has the right size to offer a high and lively quality of life in a more human being environment.
What is amazing is that you can only speak English and yet you can easily live and work here.
3. The 20 airlines in the SkyTeam alliance offer a lot of different services for business travelers – what is your personal favorite treat?
Without doubts SkyPriority is the most tangible and favorite one.
SkyPriority allows our frequent flyer and business class customers to have a ‘red carpet’ service when traveling across our 20 member airlines network (priority check in, priority on loading unloading baggage, priority on boarding, access to our SkyTeam Exclusive Lounges etc.). The same SkyPriority benefits apply when our customer buys a SkyTeam Global Meetings discounted ticket when this is in business class and/or if the customer is a frequent flyer.
4. Up in the air 🙂 – you must travel a lot! What 3 items do you always carry when you are on planes?
A book, my laptop and my thoughts. The plane is the best offline place where you can concentrate without being urged by online technology!
5. And how does a regular office day look like – what kind of work do you do?
This is a good question! Being a small team, interacting with 20 member airlines can be very challenging, but at the same time very stimulating.
My working day starts in the morning with my ‘strategic’ to do list, but when I open my inbox mail, I have already the requests sent during the night by the Asian members and when they go to sleep, then our American colleagues starts working!
My daily activity is mainly concentrated in finding new business opportunity with potential new customers (Event Organizer, Corporate Travelers) and stimulating and creating Sales and Marketing opportunities for our members in the fields to promote and sale SkyTeam commercial products including Global Meetings. The added value of the Alliance is that it creates business opportunities for all the members across all markets.
