Be it the banana, raspberry, cherry, grape or strawberry – there is a congress or symposium for almost every fruit. But you already know that…
We’ve started introducing some: the International Citrus Congress (Brazil), the International Cherry Symposium (Japan), The Australian Banana Industry Congress (ABIC) and the IX International Strawberry Symposium (Palacongressi di Rimini).
As it’s vintage time in Germany, what could be more appropriate than presenting a “grape” event this week. After doing some research, we’ve found one… namely the “8th International Table Grape Symposium” that is going to take place in Puglia and Sicily, Italy, from October 3-7, 2017.
Held every 3-4 years, the symposium is the premier international event for the table grape industry, attracting several hundred grape growers, agronomists, industry experts and scientists travelling from across the globe to present the latest scientific research, to discuss current developments and to develop ideas.
Many hot topics within the industry will be discussed: climate change, problems related to plants’ defences, cultivation techniques, main nutritional issues, or problems related to the transport, storage and processing phases.
One of the organiser, Rosario Di Lorenzo, Professor of Viticulture at the University of Palermo, states, “It is an extremely important chance for the table grape sector to rightly assert its central role in Italian agri-food, a role which in recent years, perhaps, has been somewhat challenged. It will also be an important opportunity for comparison with colleagues who come from major producing countries, but also with the technicians and all operators in the sector. Our goal will be to promote the Italian production system, mostly concentrated in the regions of Puglia and Sicily, with the intention to involve everyone and not exclude anyone.”
