What is so special about Sicily and its possibilities for winter incentives? How can Mount Etna be part of such an incentive? We have interviewed several Sicily Convention Bureau’s partners about their ideas for “warm up your incentive at Mount Etna”.
We are happy to present you another partner: Ulisse Events, a Sicilian DMC (Destination Management Company) as well as tour operator. Combining the experience and creativity of three young women from Spain and Sicily, Ulisse Events plans and designs incentive travels, congresses, conventions, kick-offs and any kind of corporate and special events, far beyond just event logistics.
We have talked to Nadia Davi from Ulisse DMC & Tour Operator.
1. In your opinion, what are three unbeatable reasons for European event planners to organize winter incentives in Sicily?
Sicily is definitely one of those places in the world best known for its wonderful shores, mild climate and UNESCO Heritage Sites. However, beyond these elements, Sicily, now more than ever, is able to give answers to the Meeting Industry needs that choose it as destination for their incentive trips all year long.
Having to pick three elements that can characterize a winter incentive in Sicily, firstly I would choose Mount Etna and its park: spectacular and inviting even in winter with its snowy landscapes! With the cozy cellars and their locally produced wines, Etna becomes, among other things, a place for rich wine tasting in a comfortable atmosphere next to a welcoming open fire.
Secondly, Sicily’s culinary tradition, flavors and unique dishes, that have always characterized our island, changing according to the season. And… why just tasting? You can also take part and have fun in an interesting cooking class and gastronomic experiences that will allow to discover the secrets of Sicilian cuisine.
In the end, historic villas and palaces, landmark of Sicily’s 2500 years of history, one of the richest and most prosperous in Europe. They are ideal locations for unforgettable gala dinners: within the large frescoed rooms, the guests will not feel any lack of the wonderful terraces used for summer dinners.
2. “Warm up your incentive at Mount Etna”: how can Mount Etna be part of a creative incentive program?
Mount Etna is one of the large exploitable resources. The volcano is an awesome location, quite versatile, both in the milder seasons as well as in the colder ones, to astonish both small and large groups. The 4×4 off-road tour (even in snowy days), teambuilding activities, tastings of local wines and typical products, are not trivial attractions especially when the context is a lava landscape that blends perfectly with the pure white snow.
3. What is your personal tip for a unique program element of a winter incentives in Sicily?
“Just trust your local DMC” is a suitable advice all year long, but especially for winter incentive trips: local operators know places, locations and beauties of this island, but they also know its limits and, therefore, are able to suggest you the right solutions, taking into account the feasibility of any option.
Finally, to the future incentive trip “guests”, who will come to Sicily in winter season for their first experience, my tip is to put in the bag one light dress or even… a swimsuit! Often in Sicily, even in winter, the climate could reserve you pleasant surprises… and why not take a chance to tan in the warm sun on the top of Mount Etna lying on a soft layer of snow?
