The international Air Transport Association (IATA) has suggested the optimum size for carry-on bags as being 55x35x20 cm, which is in fact smaller than the present accepted standards. Though just a recommendation, the new size has already been confirmed to be adopted by Lufthansa and Emirates.

“We know the current situation can be frustrating for passengers. The development of an agreed optimal cabin bag size will bring common sense and order to the problem of differing sizes for carry-on bags”, states Tom Windmuller, IATA’s senior vice president for airport, passenger, cargo and security.
