Slovenia is becoming successively important as a destination for the MICE Industry. There are different regions where meetings and events can be held such as the Alpine and Mediterranean region. Furthermore, the Slovenian cities: above all, Ljubljana and Maribor.

The cities are popular meeting places for organizers: many hotels and venues of different sizes can be found there. They all differ from each other, but have one thing in common: the high technical standard and professional staff.

Last year, a great amount of national and international association congresses with participants varying from 500 and 1.200 took place in Ljubljana – the majority in the GR – Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre, the leading events centre in Slovenia, and in the CD Cankarjev dom Cultural and Congress Centre Ljubljana. The GR offers 20 multifunctional halls and an external exhibition space. The rooms can be arranged so that they can host at the same time meetings from 15 to 6.000 delegates. The largest seating capacity is for 2.200 delegates. CD offers 22 halls with the maximum plenary of 2.000 people. This makes it the largest purpose-built congress centre in Slovenia with auditorium-style seating.

In Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre for example, the “40th World Scout Conferences” (11-15 August) took place. With 1.200 delegates, it was the largest conference in Slovenia last year. Further events were the “14th Congress of the European Association of Agricultural Economist” with 680 delegates (26-29 August 2014) and from 22-24 September the “Travel Convention 2014” with 450 people attending. In Cankarjev dom Cultural and Congress Centre, took place, among others, the “18th Winter meeting of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons” (14-16 February) and the “14th International Congress of the European Association for Japanese Studies” which brought 600 and 850 delegates to Ljubljana.

Next to these big venues, there is a great amount of hotels perfectly suitable for meetings, conferences and events. For example the Austria Trend Hotel Ljubljana: its Congress Centre is equipped with state-of-the-art technology. On a total of 554 square metres, the meeting facilities are flexible and the largest unit can accommodate up to 600 delegates. Plaza Hotel Ljubljana also presents a modern and flexible Congress Centre with a capacity of up to 250 delegates.

The Four Points by Sheraton Ljubljana Mons offers eight fully equipped and flexible meeting rooms for more than 600 people, as well as three board rooms. Best Western Premier Hotel Slon has five varied banquet facilities that have room for a maximum of 250 people. Park Hotel Ljubljana offers two modern and well-quipped conference rooms, both accommodating up to 40 participants. City Hotel Ljubljana provides a fully equipped Conference Centre with four meeting rooms. With a maximum capacity of 200 seats, it is the perfect venue for smaller meetings. Further, the Grand Hotel Union, being the largest convention hotel in Ljubljana, hosts several conferences of international and European associations every year. The Grand Union Hall accommodates up to 800 delegates. Additional space is provided in 20 other halls.

If there is interest in incentive travel, then the DMCs in Ljubljana are the right contact persons: above all, Intours DMC, KOMPAS, Destination Management Company, Palma Tour Operator & DMC and IDMC Slovenia.

Interesting for planners is the Airport Ljubljana which offers several business facilities as well as a modern, well-equipped conference hall for one hundred participants. Ljubljana Castle, a medieval fortress, is recommendable for receptions and gala dinners.

Another Slovenian city recommendable for the MICE industry is Maribor as there are many modern conference hotels and venues with rooms for large events. The Terme Maribor, a tourist service provider, offers congress activities in eight hotels. The hotels have conferences rooms that are perfect settings for meetings, banquets, receptions, exhibitions and further events. With 36,710 inhabitants, Nova Gorica is one of the small towns in Slovenia. Nevertheless, here you can find large hotels with facilities for conferences and various wellness centers that offer space for events.
