Malmö’s business sector is undergoing major developments. Recently, a Japanese foundation announced a 100 million US$ investment fund to the World Maritime University, based in Malmö. Nippon Foundation Chairman Mr. Yohei Sasakawa stated the fund would be to support the University to establish itself as:

(…) an ocean and maritime research institution engaged in multi-disciplinary scientific research in the marine field, and an educational institution that generates human resources who have the capacity to address ocean issues with a multi-disciplinary approach.

In the last couple of years Malmö has also seen a lot of companies move headquarters to the city, among which Babyliss, Peugeot, Subaru Sweden, Storck Sweden, Oatly, as well as newly moving North Loc and Atos Medical.
