We often read about the advantages of business travel: Travelling unlocks creativity and sociability. You gain new experiences, you meet new and interesting people and consequently expand your horizons. Travelling, be it for private or business reasons, can make you happy.
A new study, ‘The dark side of business travel”, now revealed that there is also a downside of business travel.
The study highlights that individuals tend to either ‘flourish’ or ‘flounder’ in careers that include frequent business travel. The ‘flourishing hypermobile’ views frequent business travel as an integral part of their happiness and identity, whereas the ‘floundering hypermobile’ experiences frequent business travel as a source of unhappiness that endangers their health and psycho-social wellbeing.
