From 24 until 29 November 2015 the 31. Slovene Book Fair took place at Cultural & Congress Center Cankarjev dom in Slovenia’s capital Ljubljana.

The Slovene Book Fair in Ljubljana celebrated its 30 years of existence in 2014, and is one of the oldest and biggest book events in Slovenia, presenting over 150 exhibitors each year on a fair ground of approximately 2500sqm, based in Cankarjev dom, which is, together with the Chamber of Commerce (Section for publishing, print and trade) also the organizer of the fair.

The fair is not only a trade event. With its rich literary program on the fairground (various stages with live events, program for professionals etc.) and its focus on audience development it is also one of the most important events promoting reading culture among audiences. Every year the book fair launches new programs, including a children’s’ book fair called Cicifest in 2015, presenting around 50 events for children of various age groups.

After 30 years of its existence the Slovene Book Fair went international. Every year, starting 2015, a country or region will be represented in the book fair’s international focus, and the first country to get this honour was France. The focus countries for the next years are the region of Istria (Croatia) in 2016 and Germany in 2017.

France held in-depth presentations at the Book Fair. More than 20 events and other content was organized by the French Cultural Institute Charles Nodier and the Embassy in Ljubljana, with help of the book fair personnel and in collaboration with various partners, including publishers.

Many top literary guests could be welcomed at the fair, such as Pascal Bruckner and Jacques Ranciere, one of the most respected living philosophers. At the Book Fair closing event the audience encountered the author who is still considered enfant terrible of French literature, Frederic Beigbeder. All authors also presented their newest book translations into Slovenian.
