Visiting Malmö during the summertime can be a beautiful experience that will bring you closer to a truly relaxing vacation feeling. The sea sidecity is vibrant, green and filled with music, creating the perfect atmosphere. Here is a list of events happening this summer in Malmö, as presented by the Malmö Convention Bureau:
Sommarscen Malmö is held over nearly two months during the summer. It offers a comprehensive programme featuring lots of music, film and theatre at various locations around the city. Join in with the community singing in Pildammsparken or enjoy the open-air cinema or children’s theatre. You don’t even need to take your wallet with you, as the rule here is “always under an open sky, always free entry”.
The Malmö Festival
“With 1.4 million amazing people visiting me every year, I’m the pride of the Nordic region and Scandinavia’s biggest experience-based festival in an urban environment.” That’s how the Malmö Festival describes itself. Over eight days in August, the centre of Malmö is transformed into one big festival site with food, music and culture. If you like festivals, you’ll love this! If you’re looking for peace and quiet, maybe the other 357 days in the year might be more suitable for your visit.
Why not celebrate Midsummer in Malmö? Midsummer Eve is one of the highlights of the year in Folkets park, although it is of course also celebrated at lots of other places, both in the centre and beyond. Check out the City of Malmö’s website for the latest information about where you can dance around the maypole.
Malmö City Horse Show
Every summer, major equestrian competitions are organised at the Ribersborg fields. In summer 2015 there will be both the European Championship for Ponies and international eventing for large horses. There is plenty of room for spectators along the sea shore, with free entry every day.
Golf’s European Tour comprises around fifty competitions all over the world. Sweden will host the Nordea Masters on 4-7 June. The competition will be held on the top-class PGA Sweden National golf course in Bara, just outside Malmö. Last year 80,000 visitors came to watch elite players from world golf at close quarters.
Malmö Pride takes place at the beginning of August, an event that is growing and attracting more and more visitors every year. The festival is a manifesto in which the LGBT movement can make its voices heard.
