While the winters can be quite harsh on the Faroe Islands, there is usually a spike in visitors starting around May. Jákup Sverri Kass, CEO of the local Vagar Airport stated: “Normally we have 20,000-25,000 travelers in May. [This year] we had some 32,500 passengers through the terminal.” That’s a 25% increase!

Such a large increase in tourism compared to previous years can be traced back to the fact that Atlantic Airways is offering a record-number of direct routes to and from Europe and that SAS has recently included the Faroe Islands into their route-net with direct flights from Copenhagen to the Faroe Islands.

Mr. Kass agreed: “The prices of tickets have decreased and there has been an increased awareness on the Faroe Islands as a tourism destination.”

Peak seasons for the Faroe Islands are between June and August, when days have up to 22 hours of sunlight! The weather is delightfully warm at this point and great leisure activities such as open-air concerts or food festivals are taking place!
