Dubai, September, 2019: Since 2009, the WOW Awards have been the epitome of celebrating excellence in the larger event industry. With International LIVE Events Association (ILEA – Middle-East Chapter) as a strategic partner, the legacy of WOW had expanded with a dedicated edition for the Middle-East’s event industry hosted in the eventful city Dubai.
As its customary and as part of the ceremony, beyond the competitive awards, the institution of WOW presented ‘special acknowledgments’ to select entities that had made an outstanding contribution to the Event industry of the region. In keeping with this tradition and in partnership with ILEA, The WOW Visionary Special Honour was presented to the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing, in acknowledgement of its achievements in building one of the World’s most successful event economies in Dubai. The award was presented by Khalid Al Hammadi, CEO-Event Services, Dubai World Trade Center and Paul Berger, President, ILEA – ME to Ahmed AlKhaja, CEO, Dubai Festival and Retail Establishments, Dubai Tourism and Abdallah AlAmeeri, Senior Manager, Dubai Festival and Retail Establishments, Dubai Tourism and Steen Jakobsen, Assistant Vice President, Dubai Business Events and City. Dubai has played a benchmarking role in this region as the most attractive tourist destination, primarily due to the draw of very successful and engaging cultural and recreational events and festivals, in addition to its incomparable facilities and features to host global events.
Iconic festivals like the Dubai Shopping Festival, Dubai Food Festival, Dubai World Cup, Dubai Jazz Festival, Art Dubai, Dubai Design Week and Dubai Rugby Sevens are just a few examples of how the destination has ensured every interest is catered to and presented in the most exciting formats, leaving visitors spoilt for choice and ensuring steady and successful tourism into this mega-city. This effort is only more validated with Dubai being the host destination for the World Expo in 2020.
A second Special Honour, titled WOW Milestone, was presented to the Coca Cola Arena.
